Jamie went to art school in London and directly after graduating was asked back to be the most unqualified advertising tutor St Martins had yet known.
Out of respect for the students Jamie became embroiled in the advertising world as a lowly freelance creative at several agencies including Mother where to his chagrin he was jointly to blame for the D&DA Gold winning ‘Brit Art’ campaign (which he still believes to be pretty rubbish).
Jamie then left to follow his dream of making poorly paid late night TV; for C4 he made REJOICE IN OUR LOVING (a no-budget documentary on himself and a friend’s medieval wooing attempt of the Princesses of Sweden), I LOVE CEREAL, A TV FANZINE (homemade Ode to the nation’s best loved breakfast snack… my bowl runneth over) & two series of post C4 News shorts (advocating obsessive love for strangers and saving the world while brushing your teeth etc). He also made the lo-fi Alice-in-Wonderlandesque ALT TV: HOLIDAY ROUND MY BEDROOM for which he was nominated for both the BAFTA and Broadcast Awards ‘best new director factual’ and ‘best new director’ 04.
Approached by Mother, he made an animated TV ad for the Observer Food Monthly which was a re-version of a section from his personal video fanzine project SHIT TV which is currently in production for dissemination in a new seven part C4 series.
He also collaborated with ‘05 Turner Prize winning artist Jeremy Deller on a series of shorts for popular music band The Manic Street Preachers.
