Having taken a M.A. in film and winning a prestigious Sony award with her graduation film, Sandra joined the BBC and directed two films on the artist Jeff Koons and on Grand Central Station. Her short film “Seventeen” won Silver at the Chicago Film Festival.
Her commercials career began with work for The Northern Rock Building Society, Johnnie Walker and The Radio Times and Scottish Widows. In 1998 she wrote and directed her first feature “The Governess”. Described in the New York Times as “Ravishingly handsome… so richly panoramic” and in the Chicago Tribune as “a striking and promising debut from a fine new filmmaker”, it won numerous awards in the US and in Europe, including a BAFTA nomination for the best newcomer to feature films.
In 2001 Sandra wrote and directed “Me Without You” starring Anna Friel and Michelle Williams. Again the film received great critical acclaim and premiered in competition at Venice. The film received a BAFTA nomination for the most outstanding British film. Time Out wrote “Exudes an intelligence and emotional maturity all too rare in British Cinema.”
Screened at Christmas 2007 Sandra's latest film, Ballet Shoes, an adaption of Noel Streatfield's famous novel won Sandra another clutch of awards.
Sandra has just recently directed a commercial for the latest series of the BBC's ever popular Strictly Come Dancing.
