Before going to the National Film School in the 1997, Tom spent all his time making short films with friends and generally avoiding getting any kind of proper job. The shorts he made at film school (Bait, Going Down, Bubbles) won lots of awards at festivals in Europe and America. Bait and Going Down were both BAFTA nominated in successive years. While he was still at film school he directed a new series called Hearts and Bones that was a success even though he claims to still have nightmares about having to shoot eight pages of script a day. He also worked on the award winning series Clocking Off , and in 2002 made No Night is Too Long, a TV film for the BBC and Alliance Atlantis in Canada. He has made commercials for Lowe Lintas, BBDO, DDB and the BBC and has been featured in the Saatchi’s Best New Directors showcase .His Guardian commercial was nominated for a BTAA.
