Tomboy Films was started in 1992 by Glynis Murray with Directors Stephen Frears, Kirk Jones and John Schlesinger. In 1994 Frances Silor joined forces with Glynis to form a roster of half a dozen Directors. In 2004 Barnaby Spurrier and Simon Cheek merged their company, Spirit Films, with Tomboy.

Glynis, often known as Murray, formally ran the Paul Weiland Film Company and Frances worked with many of London's most renowned Directors. Barnaby and Simon were founding partners of the Redwing Film Company before they set up Spirit Films. Glynis, Frances and Barnaby all share a similar ethos, background of production experience and standards of professionalism.

In 1997 the company produced its first feature film "Shooting Fish" and then made "Waking Ned" which was written and directed by Tomboy director Kirk Jones. In 2005 Kirk directed "Nanny McPhee" for Working Title.

The company continues to offer a roster of Directors from the world of Commercials, TV and Feature Films which provide Agencies with unique access to an unrivalled range of creativity and talent. It has just established a new division, Kog Industries, to produce digital media and content.
